No matter what industry you wish to build your career in, apprenticeships are a fantastic way to get started, regardless of your experience. Sadly, many of us are unaware of all the options available out there. Indeed, there are apprenticeships outside of mechanics, hair dressing, HR and hospitality. In this article, we have gathered a few cool and interesting apprenticeships that you might not know about.

  • Zookeeper

While it would be better if you have some experience working with animals, and eventually it could be necessary for you to finish an animal care or management course, you normally don't need a degree to enter into zoo keeping. Typically, you can obtain this experience by volunteering or enrolling in an apprenticeship programme, which provides real-world, hands-on instruction. Find out if your local zoos have any programmes you can join; they can be very competitive, so it's best to submit your application as soon as possible.

  • Design

This is the ideal apprenticeship for anyone who aspires to be a graphic designer, interior decorator, merchandiser, or other related profession. As a design apprentice, you can specialise in graphic, multimedia, interior, fashion, textile, product, furniture design or more. This is a great option for people who know they want to work in the creative industry but are not quite sure about what speciality yet.

  • Cabin crew

Many of us are fascinated by the professionalism and grace of cabin crew staff. Indeed, their job is very interesting and a bit mysterious. So mysterious sometimes that many of us have no idea how to train for that job. Do you need to attend any flight schools? What about a degree?

Well turns out you can start with an apprenticeship! You will learn all the basics of the job and be given all the knowledge you need to jump into your career straight away or keep studying to refine your skills. And the best part is that, although knowing a second language is very helpful, it's not a requirement to start an apprenticeship!

  • Costume making

A costume and wardrobe apprenticeship can be a suitable fit if you have a creative eye, know how to sew, and want to work in theatre, television, or cinema. You can choose between intermediate and advanced levels. The former is more technical in nature and focuses on tasks like making and modifying costumes, locating materials, and looking for hired props and accessories. If you choose a more advanced level of the apprenticeship, you will be working with the more conceptual components of costume design, which will require studying clothing and accessories for a specific time period or area and assisting the director in developing his or her vision.

  • Landscaping

In this apprenticeship, you will work with a professional landscaping crew to learn about both soft and hard landscaping. You will learn from trained and experienced professionals throughout real life tasks. It is also a great way to get comprehensive training in handling clients, providing customer care, communicating with customers as well as mastering techniques and equipment usage.

  • Chef

Do you wish to make culinary creation the focus of your career? Do you want to be the next Gordon Ramsey or Nigella Lawson? Well, a chef apprenticeship might be the way! Through this apprenticeship, you'll be able to assist your fellow chefs in the kitchen by offering suggestions for new menu items and learning various food preparation techniques. For someone who wishes to launch their culinary career in a world-class, professional setting, this is the perfect option.
