Are you passionate and knowledgeable about your industry? Would you like to help others to reach their career goals? Are you looking for new opportunities? You might be the perfect candidate to become an ART assessor. But why should you become an ART assessor?

What is an assessor?

An assessor is a person who works in a college, training centre, or workplace to provide students with support and evaluation as they work towards earning a vocational qualification. The responsibility of ensuring that trainees meet the occupational standards necessary to achieve their qualifications falls on the shoulders of the assessor. In many cases, the job of an assessor involves both teaching and evaluating.

Why should you become an assessor?

  • Meet new people from different backgrounds

Getting to know students from different backgrounds is one the most interesting aspects of becoming an ART assessor. As an assessor you will get to work with a diverse range of students and help them reach their personal goals. You need to have a solid understanding of their capabilities and guarantee that they are completely ready to move forward. It can be very rewarding to learn more about the individual goals that your students have set for themselves. Assessing is also a great way to network because it gives you the opportunity to work alongside other assessors from all over the UK and the world.

  • Reaching new levels in your career

Working in assessment will help you develop a wide variety of skills, including communication and the ability to manage your time effectively. No two days will be the same for you, regardless of whether you are keeping track of achievement or marking papers. You can become an expert in your field by identifying gaps in your knowledge, and reading extensively about a subject of interest. You might even decide to pursue a career in academia, teaching, or training after your experience as an assessor. Lastly, as many companies look for auditing experience, assessing experience might offer the possibility of moving into management or higher levels within your industry.

  • Finding a new role

If you've spent the majority of your working life in an office setting, you might be interested in exploring alternative ways to put your skills to use. And after spending many years in similar positions, it can be challenging to determine what the next step should be. Becoming an ART assessor will allow you to put your professional experience to use while experimenting with a new industry. Giving you a safe bubble while still trying a new adventure.

  • Flexibility

There are times in ones’ life where a conventional 9 to 5 job does not quite work. You might be returning to work after having a child, you might want to do some travelling or you might simply want to try something new. As an ART assessor, you will become a freelancer, which will give you the flexibility you might be looking for. You will be in charge of your own schedule, even if you only work part-time. The work of an assessor can vary greatly so you are not likely to get bored!
